Declan James has been Brockton Point’s most ineligible bachelor––happy with his short-term relationships and focusing on his business. But now that his closest friends have found their happily-ever-afters, he can’t help but wonder what that might be like. And then Sophia Strombi shows up on his doorstep.

Sophia’s life is––well there’s no other word for it––a mess. She’s grateful to have some work at her brother’s best friend’s bar, and a place to stay. Since she’s working hard to get her life back on track, she’s desperately trying to ignore the fact her boss makes her heart pound in a good way. Wait––no. That’s not good at all.

Besides, she has a huge secret she’s keeping from everyone––one that’s a life-changer.

Our Thoughts

Sophia Strombi was ready to come home – even if it had been 10 years since she left against her family’s wishes. But she has a list of things she needs to do before she lets them know she’s back in town.. to stay. Declan James is more than willing to take a chance on her. She’s known him all her life; he is her brother’s best friend, he is a player and he is very much off limits. Especially since she has a secret that could ruin a chance at a relationship.

I couldn’t wait to read this book. The synopsis just drew my attention and I knew it would be worth the wait. I was not disappointed. The chemistry between Declan & Sophia is very strong right from the start. However – I love how the author handled the development of the relationship : from boss/employee to friends to maybe something more. It was unrealistic to expect Sophia to jump into a relationship as soon as she got home, so it was even better that the author showed the struggle she was going through. Also the patience Declan had with Sophia’s hesitance – even when he knew he messed up – he still put her first. This book was a quick weekend read (listed on Goodreads at 365 pages) and, while I wish it were longer, the story line was great. This is the third book in this series/world but they can be read standalone (I started with this one but will definitely be checking out the other two). Overall I give 4 stars – absolutely will be recommending this one to others.
