SYNOPSIS:

Sevina has never known life outside a slave ship… until today. At twenty-two, she’s sent to Eryon Valis, a Korlethean slave with whom she must mate as part of their master’s psi breeding program. When a prophecy sets a target on her, Eryon secretly shields her and their unborn daughter from those who would harm them.

Unbeknownst to Sevina, her mother Maheva faces her own emotional turmoil while playing a dangerous game to protect her children from the crew and the twisted Guldan beliefs of their Master Gruuk.

As one tragedy compounds another, will Fate forsake them or set the path to a better future?

MY THOUGHTS

In this prequel to Regine Abel’s Veredian Chronicles we learn the history of Sevina, who is the mother to Amalia, and Maheva, who is the mother of Sevina. While I don’t think it is necessary to read the other books first – and usually I actually prefer it due to wanting to read things in chronological order – I will say that there was a time or two where I wondered if I’d follow better having read Amalia’s story first. The journey that Sevine’s life follows was like a roller coaster- so many ups and downs, which makes sense for her life as a slave. There were so many eye opening moments for her that showed life was quite how she thought it was.

I had not previously read any books by this author but the synopsis was very eye catching. I was pleased with the many emotions this book pulled out of me; there was happiness, heartbreak and even a little anger. I enjoy sci-fi romances but some of them tend to get a little too much with the futuristic elements but I loved this one. The author had the perfect blend of characters and it just all came together for a great read.
