When Judson’s father died suddenly, he dropped out of college and became a Navy SEAL. He left everything from his old life behind, including the girl he loved, but never told—Quincy. After ten years, Judson’s military career ends abruptly when the vehicle he’s in runs over an IED. He has his hands full learning to live with one leg, PTSD and a civilian life he wasn’t ready to return to.
Judson and Quincy are reunited when their mentor dies. Once Quincy realizes the depth of his pain, she knows it’s her turn to be the savior. Years of pent-up passion are unleashed, but it may be too late if Judson can’t crawl out of hell. Quincy has every intention of healing this wounded warrior before his demons are the ones who determine his fate.
This was my first read by this author and I was really excited to get a chance to read and review it. This book has so much intensity – between both the main couple – and the supporting cast. Once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down because I was so engrossed in the story.
This book was a great example of the friends to lovers type of love; Quincy & Judson have been friends for many many years. Judson was there to help Quincy through a very difficult time in her life & he became her best friend. Then he joins the military and she doesn’t see or hear from him again for 10 years. An IED explosion while he was on tour causes him to lose so much and he comes back to American feeling like less of a man; this is Quincy’s chance to stand by his side as he once did for her.
I grew up a military brat so I’ve always been empathetic towards the struggles and emotional battles that our military men have to go through once they come home. I feel like because of this I was drawn the most to Judson’s character. I could never even imagine what someone would have to deal with but I feel like this author painted a very good picture of his struggles. Quincy’s relationship with him is instrumental to helping Judson move on after his military time is forced to end. I really enjoyed reading about how these two encouraged each other throughout their lives to be stronger individuals. A great combination of drama with just enough romance.
