The Bad Boy Next Door

by Jody Holford
Publication Date: March 20, 2017
My Rating: 4.5 Stars
Genres: Adult, Entangled: Bliss, Contemporary, Romance

Shay Matthews moved to Boston for a fresh start…new apartment, new job, new routine. After too many years being coddled by her overbearing older brothers, Shay’s ready for some freedom and maybe a nice, easygoing guy. She wasn’t expecting to literally run into the scowling, brooding, (and unfairly smoking hot) guy next door.

Fresh off a haunting undercover assignment, detective Wyatt Daniels is jaded about life, relationships, and especially happily-ever-after. But there’s something about the independent and beautiful Shay that makes him want to dig deeper. Or stay away, which is definitely the smarter option of the two.

But the more Shay tries to convince herself that her sweet building manager, Brady, is the guy for her, the more Mr. Completely Wrong-for-Her Wyatt invades her mind and her heart.

This is the first book I have read by Jody Holford but I fell in love with the characters and I will be looking into more of her works. I’ll be honest, when I first read the synopsis I was thinking ‘oh this will be your typical good girl next door falls for bad boy neighbor’ but it was not! This author took the classic theme and out a whole new spin on it.

Shay needs a fresh start and she is determined that this one is going to be something she does all by herself. She hasn’t even moved her furniture in when she runs into Wyatt Daniels. From that first meeting neither Wyatt or Shay can get away from the other; they are either running into each other in the store or in the parking lot. They quickly progress from ‘just neighbors’ to friends and then maybe even to more than friends.

The author did such a great job with this book that I literally did not want to put it down – and the only reason I DID stop reading was because I had to go to work. These characters were so realistic and relatable to the reader that you couldn’t help to love them and all their quirks. Both of them have reasons for their trust issues but the steps they take in their budding relationship to help them through are both endearing and relatable to anyone who deals with those issues personally. I felt like the pace of the book was perfect too; I was so into the book that it flew by but it wasn’t so fast that it felt rushed. If you havent read this book yet, I would highly recommend doing so!

Jody Holford is a multi-published author who has a soft spot for happily ever after. So much so, she tattooed the words on her arm. She’s a mom and a wife, a friend, sister, daughter, teacher, and book-lover. Her stories have a little bit of heat and a lot of heart. And maybe, some swoon-worthy moments that will make you smile.
