She doesn’t date players…
Sophie loves her life: she’s travelled the world and lived by her own rules. But when she finds out about her grandfather’s heart attack, she drops everything and boards a plane to Ireland. Two weeks, that’s the plan. Until one look at her childhood nemesis has her rethinking everything. She’s sworn off athletes, but she might just give him a try…
He’s the biggest player of all.
Sex and rugby. Those were the only two things Declan cared about, right up until his first love waltzed back into his life. Even as he slept his way through Dublin, he never stopped thinking about her. Never stopped wondering if she thought about him, too. So even though he’s never gone after a woman the way he chases down opponents on the field, this time, he won’t let her get away.
On the field, he’s invincible, but she just might break him.

I could not put this book down!  I had not previously read any books by Rebecca Norinne but I love reading new authors and discovering their works.  The way the author wrote this had me anxious to get to the end, just so I could see what happened with all the characters.  Declan and Sophie being the main ones, but there were a lot of supporting cast that I want to read more about as well.  I absolutely can’t wait until the future books of this series come out. I plan to snatch them up as soon as they are released.

Declan and Sophie knew each other when they were younger, and I love reading books where the main characters get to reconnect with each other because no matter what, there will probably be drama involved.  Especially in a way such as this author did; based on their history together it is to be expected that Sophie would not want anything to do with Declan.. and boy does she let him know it.  It always amuses me to read a story where the female lead doesn’t give in to the male’s wants and wishes right away – make him work for it!  Okay, so maybe I am little biased towards siding with women but one of my favorite types of character is a confident, independent woman who doesn’t just fall into the lap of whatever man gives her the come-hither stare.  And the fact that Declan was willing to try for Sophie raises my opinion of him immensely.  He’s a playboy who has never had a relationship before but actively pursues the woman of his dreams? I’m swooning over here.

This book had me so ecstatic for Sophie and Declan and then I flipped a page and I wanted to shake Sophie for her stubbornness and stupidity.  Her character has trust issues (I won’t spoil but let’s just say they are for good reasons) but at the first sign of trouble she throws her walls up so fast I honestly didn’t think the book would end happily and I felt bad for the hurt she was causing both of them to go through.  The author knows how to keep her readers interested, that’s for sure.  There was drama, there was action, there was romance and there was sex (hot hot steamy sex at that) but they all worked together for a perfect balance.  Now I just have to have patience (a virtue I’m sorely lacking, by the way) and wait for the next book to come out.

Rebecca read her first book when she was four years old and has been hooked on the written word ever since. While working in technology PR in Silicon Valley, she began writing her debut novel and eventually published it six years later. At the end of 2014, she left behind her career in corporate communications to become a full time author. When she’s not writing, you can find Rebecca exploring her new city of Dublin, Ireland, watching Leinster Rugby matches, or traveling the globe searching for inspiration for her next book.

  1. Thanks so much for reading & reviewing Trying Sophie! I’m so happy to hear you love Declan and Sophie’s story and can’t wait to read more in the series (can’t wait to get Aoife and Eoin’s tale into everyone’s hands in 2017).
