For eighteen-year-old Becca Torrence, the chance to finish high school in a new town, where no one knows her or the secrets of that night, should be a dream come true. But when the first day of school rolls around, something is wrong.

Instead of being greeted with warm smiles and reassuring hellos, Becca finds herself on the receiving end of icy stares and cruel whispers. Putting it down to her status as an outsider, she holds her head high, because they can’t know.

They can’t.

Can they?

Determined to make her new life in Credence work, Becca is willing to do whatever it takes to fit in. Even if it means losing herself in the process.

A white lie can save you … Too many lies will break you.

My Review: I’ll be honest, when I first read the blurb for this book I wasn’t completely sold on the idea. It seemed interesting enough but it wasn’t 100% capturing my attention. But as soon as I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. It was a fairly quick read; it only took me about 2-3 hours, but like I said – that was without any breaks. Becca is 18 years old, and due to something bad in her past, she is starting fresh with her family in a new town. Everything is new: new school, new friends, new house, new attitude. It’s hard when you’re hiding a big secret – but eventually the lies pile up and spill out.
I haven’t read any books by L. A. Cotton before but she has a way of writing that held my attention every step of the way. She made her characters believable, the themes and plot were relatable to the readers and she is marketing it as a YA novel but it could be enjoyed by all ages of adults. I don’t want to spoil the book too much, but Becca’s character had so many trust issues that even I wasn’t sure who she should trust. I honestly think my only complaint about this book is that it is a pretty big cliffhanger. And now I have to wait until next year for the second one 😦
