The Dare and The Doctor by Kate Noble
Winner Takes All #3
Rating: 5 Stars
Length: 384 Pages
Dr. Rhys Gray & Miss Margaret Babcock are friends – and nothing more. They correspond through letters about their different lives & interests but neither of them hold any expectations or romantic intentions toward the other.
Margaret is more comfortable in her garden or her greenhouse than she is out in town. So when she is invited to London by Rhys to speak to the Horticultural Society, she has to step out of her comfort zone. Rhys is very dedicated doctor who would rather be in his laboratory than out at a ball or a dance. But when Margaret comes to town he finds himself more often than not wanting to be where she is. As they spend more time together, neither can deny that the attraction is growing. Will their relationship be able to withstand the trials or will they remain just friends?
I am a huge fan of historical romance novels, and let’s just say Kate Noble made me a happy girl. I have not read the other two books in this series but if they are as good as this one, I need to check them out; you don’t necessarily have to read the previous books, but there are some hints towards events from the first two books. Plus you’ll know the stories of the supporting characters. This author writes in a way that made me feel like I stepped back in time and walking through London with these characters, like I was a part of the story.
When two characters start out as friends, like Margaret & Rhys do, it’s always fun for me to see the turning point in the relationship and how it develops from there. Sometimes the relationship is turbulent and other times the growth seems effortless; the latter is the case in this book. Margaret is a tad awkward but Rhys always makes her feel comfortable in her own skin. And when Rhys reveals that he is being pushed in a direction by his family, she lends her support to him. I don’t like drama in real life, but I don’t mind reading it. This book had tender lover, sweet romance, suspense and drama – everything I could want in a book.
