My Thoughts
This is my first Rachel Van Dyken book and I was so impressed. Growing up the Cinderella fairy tale was never one of my favorites – I just felt like it was over told and over done; every little girl wanted her prince charming. However – this author’s modern take on the classic Cinderella fairy tale was so delightful that as an adult I may have changed my mind. We have the prince charming who might not always be so charming & likable and then we have the maid who wants her prince charming & happily ever after but doesn’t dare to hope for more. Both of them are so determined to please others that they just push their own dreams and happiness to the back burner.

I loved the way the author handled the back and forth with the characters. Neither one of them wanted to really hope for more in their relationship, and you could tell that both Jane & Brock struggled with throughout the book. The character personalities were so involved I felt like I knew both them in person. I love a book where I feel like I’m on a first name basis with the main characters. The emotional range I went through while reading this book was so intense – I laughed at the pranks & awkwardness, I teared up for the characters’ pain and I sighed at the romance. I hope there’s more to this family – maybe a story for the twins? 😉
