Evey Ryan’s bar is next door to a bakery – convenient for her so she can easily access her usual morning coffee, blueberry muffin and eyeful of man candy. Vincent Silva’s favorite time of day is when Evey comes into his bakery. He’s had his eye on her for almost a year but hasn’t had the courage to say anything to her about it. When the Irish mob comes around demanding Evey, well Vincent just can’t let that happen.
This was a good read. Vincent and Evey have such chemistry and they’ve both wanted each other for so long but neither was sure of the other’s feelings. I loved how Tabatha Kiss handled the timidity between them when they first start out in their relationship. It wasn’t just jumping in head first, but had an actual build. The way she writes the characters’ story gets the reader very invested in their relationship, and you’re really rooting for them. I love getting into a book where there are ups and downs; real-life couples have drama so it always makes me a little happy when couples in books have struggles too.
The drama is intense in this book; the mob is after Evey and if she doesn’t pay the family debt then she’s expected to work it off with favors. The lengths that Vincent goes through to make sure Evey is taken care of and safe is just so sweet. Being a former Navy SEAL means he of course is in great shape (and, based on the description, super hot) and he pulls no punches when it comes to protecting her from the mob. He is such an alpha male and really he just works perfectly with Evey.
